Weather: Falling temperatures forecast for Friday, periods of snow Saturday

After a high of 15.5 C Thursday — a Dec. 16 record for Ottawa — Friday is forecast to feel more wintry for kids’ last day of school before the Christmas break.

From 5 C Friday morning, the mercury was expected to fall to -1 C in the afternoon, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Expect cloudy skies and a west wind at 30 km/h gusting to 50.

Friday night is forecast to dip to -6 C with wind of up to 15 km/h and a wind chill of -10 overnight.

Periods of snow are expected to start Saturday afternoon and continue Saturday night with a high of -4 C and a low of -9 C.

The outlook for Sunday is sunny with a high of -7 C and a low of -15 C.

There’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries Monday, day and night, with an expected high of -3 C and low of -6 C.

Mixed skies are in the forecast for Tuesday with a high of -5 C and a low of -12 C.

Sunrise is at 7:36 a.m. and sunset is at 4:21 p.m.
