Russia’s annual May 9th Victory Parade will include a flight by the Il-80 “doomsday” plane, which would carry Russia’s senior leadership in the event of a nuclear war as a further threatening signal to the West on nuclear war. 


On the ground, Russian and Belarusian forces continue “demonstrative actions” to fix Ukrainian forces around Kyiv in place.


The Ukrainian counteroffensive along a broad arc north and east of Kharkiv city took further terrain and will likely push Russian forces out of tube artillery range of the city in the coming days. 


Northeast of Kharkiv, Ukrainian forces  liberated the settlements of Oleksandrivka, Fedorivka, Ukrainka, Shestakove and Peremoha. They gained partial control over Cherkas’ki Tyshky.


Russia is continuing to partially blockade the heavily hit city of Kharkiv. Russian shelling intensified in Kharkiv and Kharkiv Oblast, targeting residential areas.


Russian shelling was intensive across parts of the northern Donbas today where Russia continues to make some small gains. 


Russian forces did not make any progress on the Izyum axis.


Russian forces likely secured small gains on the outskirts of Severodonetsk but are unlikely to successfully surround the town.


Luhansk Oblast Governor Serhiy Haidai said that in the next 3-4 days, Russian forces will put all efforts to break through either to Sievierodonetsk or Popasna, two cities still under Ukraine’s control.


But there were no significant changes on the southern axis in the last 24 hours and Russian forces continued to reinforce their forward positions.


Ukraine said Russian planes continued to launch air attacks on Mariupol, focusing on the Azovstal steelworks. 


Russian troops fired at evacuation vehicles near Azovstal and killed a Ukrainian soldier. Russian troops also wounded six soldiers who were on their way to pick up civilians from the besieged Azovstal plant.


Nearly 500 civilians have been evacuated from Mariupol and other areas in southern Ukraine as part of a joint UN-International Red Cross operation. 


Russian troops have attacked Huliaipole and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, with artillery and airstrikes. 


Mykolayiv was struck several times today from the air. 


Russia aims to occupy the whole Kherson Oblast and create favorable conditions to attack the cities of Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih.


Russian forces carried out a number of attacks targeted at Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts’ settlements which had been liberated by the Ukrainian army.


Ukrainian anti-ship cruise missiles hit and severely damaged the Russian warship Admiral Makarov, an Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate. There are also reports that two smaller patrol vessels were destroyed by Ukrainian drones.
