Ontario Provincial Police say the man was initially pulled over for driving without lights at about 9:30 p.m. on Pembroke Street East.

A roadside screening device was used, and the man was then taken to the detachment for further testing.

As a result, the man was charged under the Criminal Code for “operation while impaired — alcohol” and “operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.”

E-bikes are not defined as motor vehicles under the provincial Highway Traffic Act. HTA charges carry an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and impounding of the vehicle.

The man is to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 7.
