Passenger dies in UTV rollover accident in Okanagan’s Lake Country


The driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested for alleged impaired operation of a vehicle causing death.

The RCMP is investigating after a passenger died in a UTV rollover accident Saturday in the Okanagan’s Lake Country.

RCMP received a report at about 4 a.m. of the accident at Spion Kop trails in the area of the Summit Trail.

The passenger on the UTV, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, also a 34-year-old man, was arrested for alleged impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Lake Country Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and Kelowna RCMP Forensic Identification Services assisted with this investigation.

RCMP Watch Commander Tammy Lobb said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.”

The BC Coroners Service is investigating and the victim’s identity has not been released
