Ottawa teens charged after stolen vehicle crashes near Havelock

An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth, both from Ottawa, face charges after a stolen vehicle crashed and rolled over near Havelock.

Officers were called to the collision on Cole Road at about 9 a.m. on Dec. 23, the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said in a release.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the speeding vehicle lost control while taking a corner, according to police, who allege that the vehicle had been stolen from a home in Northumberland County.

The 18-year-old man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of driving while prohibited, two counts of failing to comply with a court-imposed sentence and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on Feb. 2.

The 16-year-old passenger will appear in court in Peterborough Feb. 14 charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and with theft of a motor vehicle.
