New staff and child cases of COVID-19 were reported at City of Ottawa child-care facilities Tuesday with a total of nine active cases of the virus.
Employees at the Foster Farm, Borden Farm and at the Elsie Stapleford centres have tested positive along with a child at Borden Farm, Esther By and at the Charmian Craven centre, Donna Gray, the general manager of community and social services, said in a memo Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, there was one staff case and three children infected at Borden Farm, one child case at Charmian Craven, two staff cases at Elsie Stapleford, one child case at Esther By, and one staff case at Foster Farm.
Children’s services staff are working with Ottawa Public Health to prevent further transmission of COVID-19 and to keep children and staff safe, Gray said. Measures include screening, reminders to stay home when sick, cohorting of children and staff, masking when possible, and cleaning and hand hygiene.
OPH is helping the daycares with measures including recommendations on testing, assessing whether child-care operations can continue or resume, and identifying contacts.
