A Montreal woman left her 11-year-old son at a Chelsea restaurant for almost three hours until she was finally reached at a spa, MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police said.
Police said officers were called in Sunday by concerned staff after the mom left the child at the restaurant at about 4:30 p.m., ordered him a meal and said she had errands to run. She said she would be back in about 45 minutes.
Police were called when she hadn’t returned about 7 p.m.
After several unsuccessful attempts, officers were able to reach the woman at about 7:30 p.m. She said she’d be there in a few minutes “because she is still at the spa,” police said.
“Fortunately for the child, he was in good hands and didn’t seem to mind too much.”
The 38-year-old mother “did not seem to understand the reason for the police presence and minimized the fact that her 11-year-old child had been left alone in a restaurant for almost three hours,” police said.
Officers reported the incident to child protection officials in Montreal.
