Food delivery service Skip the Dishes has sent out its end-of-year statistics for 2021, and the data may make you feel a little less guilty about your own take-out habits.
For instance, you may think you rely on delivery a lot, but chances are you haven’t come close to the Calgarian who ordered 764 times in 2021. And that was with a month left to go. That’s about two orders per day.
That presumably hungry Calgarian was only roughly half way to the Canadian record holder. Someone in Peterborough, Ont. placed 1,475 orders between January and the end of November, or about four and a half orders every day.
Provincially, someone in Edmonton nabbed the most expensive single order in this province for 2021 with $866.65 spent on Chinese food. A customer in Toronto topped that by spending $1,552.35 on an order of Indian food large enough to feed at least 40 people.
Although it didn’t make the top three list, it appears Albertans really like their tacos. People across this province ordered more than half a million tacos in 2021 (608,938), and that amounts to just under one third of all the 1.9 million tacos delivered by Skip in 2021.
Skip the Dishes said Canadians on the whole have a taste for international dishes. Garlic naan, butter chicken and miso soup were the top three most-ordered items across the 356 cities and towns where Skip operates. Nationally, the top three food categories were fast food, pizza, and Asian cuisine.
Calgarians, however, seem to prefer less exotic fare. This city’s top items ranked from high to low were chicken sandwiches, french fries and cheeseburgers.
